From Fellowship To Entrepreneurial Success: Lordrick`s Journey In Nakaseke

In 2019, Mpairwe Lordrick graduated from Kampala International University with a Degree in Business Administration. With a deep passion for making a difference in his community, Lordrick embarked on a journey that would see him transform lives and create lasting impact.

After graduation, he joined the Building Tomorrow Fellowship program, where he played a pivotal role in enrolling out-of-school children back into classrooms.

His work also involved empowering and training school management teams, improving children's learning outcomes through the Roots To Rise initiative, and promoting child protection and inclusive education in primary schools.

During his fellowship placement in Nakaseke District, Lordrick encountered a challenge that would inspire his next venture. His landlord was struggling to complete rental units due to a scarcity of construction materials, a problem that affected many in the area.

The delays in accessing building materials increased the cost of construction and disrupted the lives of the residents. Recognizing the need for a solution, Lordrick decided to take matters into his own hands.

The Launch Of His Endeavors

In 2021, Lordrick founded Mulord Hardware, a business dedicated to solving the problem of limited access to building materials in Nakaseke. He began by saving money during his fellowship, conducting a needs assessment and market research to identify the specific needs of the community, and engaging with suppliers and producers of construction materials. With a clear business plan in hand, he set up his hardware store, registered the business, and began serving the people of Nakaseke.

His Triumphs

Since its inception, Mulord Hardware has made a significant impact in the community. The store has served over 1,000 people, providing them with quality building materials and construction services. Lordrick's business has built trust and goodwill with its customers, a crucial element in the construction industry, which relies heavily on referrals. This success has not only benefited the community but also allowed Lordrick to achieve personal milestones, including constructing his own house.

Mulord Hardware's contributions to Nakaseke have been recognized by the district's infrastructure and engineering committee, which named it the best supplier of construction and building materials in the region.

Building On Experience And Planning For The Future

However, the journey has not been without challenges. Poor infrastructure in the district has made transportation of materials difficult, affecting the company's profit margins.

To overcome this, Lordrick is exploring partnerships with major suppliers to hire their trucks, which are better equipped to navigate the area's challenging roads.

Looking ahead, Lordrick plans to stabilize his current business and expand to other areas in the district by opening more branches. His goal is to extend the reach of his services and continue making a positive impact on the lives of the people in Nakaseke.

Words Of Wisdom For The Network

To the alumni network, Lordrick offers this advice: "Persevere until something is done." He encourages Current Fellows to start planning their social enterprises early in their fellowship journey and to look for opportunities to address the challenges faced by the communities they serve.

Mpairwe Lordrick's story is a testament to the power of determination and the impact that one person can have on a community. His journey from a fellowship program to a successful entrepreneur serves as an inspiration to others looking to make a difference in the world.
